Quick solutions to common issues

Most espresso and machine issues can be solved with small adjustments or simple checks.

Use this guide to quickly identify the problem and apply the recommended solution.

Espresso issues

After your coffee sessions

These basic steps take less than one minute and make a big difference in machine performance.

Coffee too fast

Symptoms:

Extraction finishes too quickly (less than about 20–22 seconds)

Coffee looks watery

Weak body

Sour taste

Most common cause:

Grind size too coarse.

Solution:

Grind finer and try again.

If the problem continues:

Check that your dose is correct (example: 18g).

Make sure you are tamping evenly

Verify coffee freshness (old coffee extracts faster)

Coffee too slow

Symptoms:

Extraction takes too long (over about 35 seconds)

Dripping instead of flowing

Very dark extraction

Bitter taste

Most common cause:

Grind too fine.

Solution:

Grind slightly coarser and try again.

If needed:

Check dose is not too high

Make sure coffee is not overdosed for the basket size

Channeling

Symptoms:

Spraying coffee

Uneven flow

Extraction from one side

Inconsistent crema

Most common cause:

Uneven distribution

Uneven tamping

Grind too coarse

Solution:

Distribute coffee more evenly before tamping

Tamp level

Try slightly finer grind

Use fresh coffee

No crema

Symptoms:

Little or no crema

Flat looking espresso

Most common cause:

Old coffee

Coffee stored improperly

Grind too coarse

Solution:

Use fresh coffee (recommended within 4–6 weeks of roast date)

Store coffee in airtight container

Adjust grind slightly finer

Machine issues

Machine not heating

Possible causes:

Machine still warming up

Safety protection active

Connection issue

Solutions:

Wait full warmup time (5–8 minutes)

Restart the machine

Check power connection

If problem persists contact support.

No water flow

Possible causes:

Empty water tank

Tank not properly inserted

Pump protection triggered

Solutions:

Check tank water level

Reinsert water tank

Restart machine

Run a blank shot

If issue continues contact support.

Strange noise

Possible causes:

Pump running without water

Air in system

Tank not fully inserted

Solutions:

Check water tank level

Reinsert tank correctly

Run a short water flush

If noise continues after checks, contact support.

Connectivity issues

App connection problems

Solutions:

Make sure Bluetooth is enabled

Restart the app

Restart the machine

Move phone closer to machine

Check for firmware updates

If pairing fails:

Remove device from app and reconnect.

Scale connection problems

To clean:

Make sure scale is charged

Enable Bluetooth

Restart scale

Reconnect from machine settings

Move scale closer to machine.

Error codes

Understanding error messages

Kubo includes internal protection systems designed to prevent damage and ensure safe operation.

If an error appears, the machine will usually indicate the cause.

E01

General protection error.

Solution:

Restart machine.

If error repeats contact support.

E02

Sensor related warning.

Solution:

Restart machine.

Allow full warmup.

Contact support if persistent.

E03

System safety protection.

Solution:

Turn machine off

Wait 30 seconds

Restart

If repeated contact support.
